Private Vs Public Servers for WarCraft

Free Warcraft Servers versus Blizzard

There are thousands of World of Warcraft private servers most of them free Warcraft servers. On these servers, the hosts typically charge money for WoW gold, but do not charge a monthly fee that Blizzard charges on World of Warcraft public servers.

Watch out for bad free warcraft servers. Many hosts are using out of date databases and items. Also, many world of warcraft private servers will randomly ban people they have problems with. Politics is much more blatant on these free servers.

If you are friends with the owner of the private server, then by all means, give it a shot. Just be aware there is typically no customer service, and definitely no backups, rollbacks or any service features that Blizzard provides.

For those interested in free Warcraft servers, why not try a game like Guild Wars? The game is free, but the service is still decent.

Some Cool Stuff

1. A large number of servers goodwill, have a standard ceiling of 255! 255 LVL is …!

2. Most high-MP server and HP’s renewable!

3. Some servers, any class or race can carry any weapons or armor!

4. If you are a good GM, you can transport the famous GM island.

5. Some servers are custom installation! For example, you can take hyppogrif, gryphon, wyvern, or even dragon! (Usually requires access to GM-Nice).

6. Some servers are custom armor and weapons. (Major pwnage).

7. Most of the server is the National People’s Congress venders for the epic quality of the project of not less than 10 grams.

8. For those who are not interested in high lats pwning thugs who want a normal operation wow, testing categories, always wanted to mess around. The high XP, you can reach 60 within 30 minutes - more than one hour.

9. Most of the time, is rich in gold! Or, if not gold … people are always a few rare / Epic dependent on the mob.

10. If you find that you have not received any XP a ton of mob killings … … Some search server products are high in the search reward XP.

World Of Warcraft – Private server Vs Official server from Blizzard

People keep asking about this topic.
What is the difference between Blizzard and Private server?
Here’s a list of the pros and cons.

Prices:

First of all if you wish to play with WOW at Blizzard’s Battle.net, you have to first buy it. It costs approx. 30-50 $ (With the expansion The Burning Crusade)
Also you have to pay a monthly fee which varies from country to county – from 30 to 80$.
If you wish to play on private servers you DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. Since blizzard released a WOW-client YOU DO NOT EVEN NEED TO BUY THE GAME – YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT LEGALLY FOR FREE. (It takes an awful lot of time – so you should buy it for that price)(Also in most countries they give you 1 free month, so you’ll have time to decide if you wish to stay at Blizzard or go to private servers)

Population and lag:

The second biggest difference is that a lot of people experience lag issues at Blizzard.
On a private server you probably WON’T EVER EXPERIENCE LAG ISSUES.
HOWEVER
70% of the private servers have low population (under 100 people), so if you prefer crowded Blizzard servers (over 500 people) you won’t have fun on them.

Quest issues.

You won’t really experience quest issues at Blizzard – HOWEVER on PRIVATE servers there are a LOT OF QUEST BUGS. SOME CAN BE FIXED BUT THE MOST OF IT CANNOT. ESCORT QUESTS CANNOT BE FIXED – because they are “server dependant”.
FEW of them CAN be fixed, but 97% CANNOT be fixed.
Also on private servers sometimes there are missing quests and you have to report them.

Talents and abilities:

At Blizzard there are no talent / ability bugs.

BUT

At private servers there are bugged ability quests, but those can be bypassed. (You won’t receive experience / reputation for competing them though)
Also there are TALENT BUGS AND ABILITY BUGS ON PRIVATE SERVERS WHICH CANNOT BE FIXED – SO you HAVE TO WAIT till THE DEVELOPERS FIX IT.
And the developers tend to fix only “useful” abilities.

GM-s and Security:

At Blizzard normally you don’t have to fear that your account will be hacked (that doesn’t mean that it cannot be hacked)

HOWEVER

There are idiot jerks who tend to hack into private servers, ruining the server, and deleting / modifying accounts.
A talented server holder can fortify defenses, And makes backups EVERY DAY so even if somebody mucks up your account the “owner” can fix it.

At Blizzard you may have ONLY ONE ACCOUNT – however ON PRIVATE SERVERS YOU MAY HAVE AS MANY AS YOU WISH. THERE ARE RULES THOUGH – SO ALWAYS READ THE RULES BEFORE YOU’LL GET YOURSELF BANNED.

At Blizzard if somebody cheats the person will get caught – sooner or later.
(In the end of 2006 an entire guild has been banned at Blizzard because they cheated)
(They cheated for moths – but they got caught)

THE FUNNY THING IS THAT IF YOU CHEAT ON A PRIVATE SERVER YOU’LL GET YOURSELF BANNED – MOST OF THE TIMES INSTANTLY – Because the developers know almost every single existing cheat even before Blizzard notices it – it depends on the owner if he/she knows enough to install / setup them.

Blizzard GM-s are often rude, and not really helpful – HOWEVER At PRIVATE SERVERS the GM’s are mostly helpful – and they are mostly happy to help.

So as you see there are a pros and cons.
If you would like to play w/o bugs you have to pay for it – but if you don’t mind bugs – or you don’t want to pay, you can go to a private server.

Private Servers Guide

First off, Here’s the original ones in case you lose them and need to change them back.

US version:
set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

European version:
set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

World Of Warcraft without the subscription fee…
Beforegetting started, note that we do not condone doing this.  People have many private servers up as I’m sure you may be aware of and Blizzard has been cracking down on a lot of them.  Either forced to shut down or brought into a criminal lawsuit.  It would be a wise idea for Blizzard to put up a single server like these, but have it be limited with “Demo” abilities so the game can at least be trialed unlimitedly.  Bet that would calm some people down with all the free servers!

1. Get WoW…you can borrow it from a friend or have it yourself, either one is just as good.
2. Get it installed on your computer (all four discs of course.)
3. IMPORTANT:  Do not open WOW yet…you will have to start all over if you do.
4. Get the proper patch for the server you’re planning to use.  Often times a site will provide a link for you to the patch they are using.
5. Go to your world of warcraft folder
6. Go to the file “realmlist.wtf”
7. Open it with notepad.
8. When it is opened it should say set realmlist to us.logon…..blah blah blah
9. REPLACE ALL OF THIS with set realmist server.name.here
10. Save and close.
11. Now lets recap: installed WoW, didn’t open it, got the 1.8.0 patch, changed the realmlist.wtf, save and closed….
12. You may have already created an account with the private server…If not use their registering process now to get one.
13. After that NOW you may open up WoW, use your account and login through the game.

Remember, these servers are unofficial and not supported by blizzard.  So don’t call for tech support or you’ll look like a jabroni.

Server Setups

Some specs you should always consider if you’re building your own machine:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+

WoW Server Connection Guide

1.) Create an account before playing.

2.) Install the WoW client. To do so, you will need to click so that you can download the original client (if needed by you) and the expansion pack called The Burning Crusade.

World of Warcraft Client Downloader (download only if you do not have the original WoW).

World of Warcraft The Burning Crusade Downloader.

3) After you have downloaded it/them, you will need to proceed with the real World of Warcraft download. This may take a long time depending on your internet connection.

4) After it completes downloading the client installer, you will need to begin the installation.

5) If you did not have the original World of Warcraft, you will have to install it first before installing the expansion pack (The Burning Crusade).

6) After you have completely installed BOTH clients, you will need to make sure you have the right patch or version to play. These clients should already be configured to the latest version; however, if this is not the case go to the following step.

7) The easiest way to get the latest patch from Blizzard is to launch WoW without changing the realmlist.
After you have launched WoW, type any account name and password such as: “blah” for account name and “blah” for password. Now press Login.

8) Your WoW should now start downloading and installing the latest patch (if needed). If it says that you login information is not correct, that mean that you have the latest patch installed already.

9) If you are a person that already has both clients installed but does not have the 2.4.x version, you will need to go to the following link and download the latest patch: http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors.

10) You are very close to being configured. You will just need to change your realmlist. To do so, follow these steps:

11) You will need to located the file called realmlist.wtf. It is in your World of Warcraft folder which SHOULD be located at: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft.

12) Open it with notepad.

13) Delete everything inside it and copy and paste the following in it:

set realmlist login.YOURPRIVATESERVER.com
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com

14) Save it.

You should now be configured to play. Just press the file called WoW.exe and play! We hope you enjoy! Have fun!

WoW Server Status

Be sure before connecting or choosing a private server that you can always have instant access to their status - that way you know if your game will have the potential of having to deal with lag and other issues.

Server Rules

Here are typical server rules found throughout:

IP Bans (Banned for ever):

  • 1. Don’t hack, exploit, or bug in-game. We don’t tolerate unfair gaming, and hackers are always punished.
  • 2. Don’t impersonate a GM(Game Master) or an Administrator. It confuses players and eventually causes problems. Breaking this rule will result in a IP ban (even if you are joking).
  • 3. Do not advertise any site/servers other than AniMMORPG games.

Account Bans:

  • 1. Excessive use of Abusive Language.
  • 2. Defrauding or Attempting to Defraud a GM.
  • 3. Harassing the GM Staff.
  • 4. Scamming another Player.
  • 5. Inappropriate character naming.
  • 6. Ninja looting. Is not cool, the raid leader trusted you so don’t be a jerk to them.
  • 7. Master Looting at 1% on bosses. Same reason as above..

Server kicks (minor offenses)

  • 1. Don’t type all in caps. Caps are annoying, no one likes them and they also make you look dumb.
  • 2. Don’t make threats or hurtful comments towards players, we want all players to feel happy playing in our servers.
  • 3. Don’t beg players/GM’s for gold, items, levels, etc.. is annoying, and other players worked hard to make their gold, so why not do the same thing instead of beg?

Please note; If you get kicked twise for the same offense, you account will be punished for 3 days.

It is important to follow these guidelines in the immediate situation when dealing with a GM. A GM will never ask you to do anything that would compromise an account or its contents. Though the GM’s motives may be unclear, there may well be a valid justification for the request, but the GM may be unable to articulate this for various reasons. Rather than disobeying in protest against the request being made or the action being taken, please oblige him/her and later express your concerns to the aniwowgmfeedback@animmorpg.com email address. Emails sent to this address go directly to the Administrators, who will investigate and address any instances of potentially inappropriate GM actions.

GMs will make every attempt to show you the respect you deserve as a valued player. We ask that you, in turn, show us the same respect. We take no joy in assigning account penalties, but sometimes must do so to preserve the integrity of the service. We look forward to our interactions with the players and hope to resolve issues quickly and painlessly so you can get back to enjoying the game.

These rules are subject to change or be added to. If anyone says “I didn’t know the rules” please link them to here. It is the Admins responsibility to give you the rules, it is your job to read them.

World of Warcraft Private Server Guide

This guide is very helpful if you have ever wondered how people get to play World of Warcraft on a private server. Doing this will can also let you play as a GM if you know the person hosting the private server. I just found this on the internet and I have not tried it. Also, I am not responsible for the information contained in this guide and use at your own risk. With that said…here is the guide!

Have you ever wondered how you could solo MC or BWL? How about have a godly character that nothing can defeat? So… Now that I’ve caught your attention, I will explain how to connect to one of many WoW private servers!

1. Rename your World of Warcraft folder to anything else, for example wowow, something you won’t forget is your World of Warcraft folder. For Windows users you’ll find the folder “World of Warcraft” in C:\Program Files.

2. Install the World of Warcraft (again). The installer will ask you where you want to place World of Warcraft. The default is installed into C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft, but instead rename it to C:\Program Files\PrivateServerWoW (or anything else). Also, don’t have it send an icon to the desktop.

3. Once you’ve installed World of Warcraft, DO NOT connect to the server!!! If you do this, WoW will update your game version to 1.9.0, and we don’t want this! Instead, download the 1.8.0 full patch. you can download it here: FileFront

4. Run the 1.8.0 installation files and have it be installed to the Wow Private Server folder. (If it doesn’t let you choose where to install it, it will automatically install in your private server folder).

5. This part is semi-optional. Just depends on if you want to have the Ahn-Qiraj stuff available in the Private Server. If you want to connect to a 1.9.0 hack server, you can download the 1.9.0 EMU patch (this is NOT the same as Blizzard’s and using Blizzard’s 1.9.0 will result in not being able to connect to the private server.) You can download the 1.9.0 emu patch HERE. Install the patch into your Private WoW server folder.

6. If you installed the 1.9.0 emu hack, go to your WoW private server folder and then inside the folder go to DATA, then to DBFilesClient. in the DBFilesClient folder DELETE the item “Spell.dbc.” If you don’t delete this, WoW will NOT work. However if you didn’t install the 1.9.0 emu hack, you won’t have to delete anything.

7. Now on to finding a private server to connect to. I find most of my servers at http://wowstatus.net/serverlist.php but you can find them elsewhere by doing a search. There, you’ll find a list of private servers. If you want to play on a server with high XP rates and gold/item rates, choose a funserver (under the XP rate column). Click on the server’s name to go to the info page. You can only play on servers that have 1.8.0, 1.8.1, 1.8.2, or 1.9.0 hack (which is really almost all servers).

8. To play on the server, you must make an account. Now click on the Account Signup page to register for that particular server. Most register sites will look like a login screen. Just type your desired username and password to sign up!

9. Once you’re signed up for that particular server, you’ll need to find the server’s address. Go back to the server’s info page, and you’ll find the server’s address In the row labeled “Server Address” (duh ).

10. Once you’ve found the server address, go back to your WoW Private Server Folder, and find a file called “Realmlist.wtf” It’s in the regular WoW private server folder, NOT in the WTF folder. Click on the Realmlist.wtf to open it. For most, it will ask you what program you want to open it with. For window’s users, choose notepad. Once opened you’ll see, [ set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com ] or [ set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com ] depending on which version you play. Now change the address to the private server you chose. (for example [ set realmlist xxx.xxx.xxx ]) Once you’ve done that, SAVE the file!

11. Now in the private server folder, click on the WoW icon (or WoW190 if you installed the 1.9.0 hack) and you’re on! Login as usual! (you can play on 1.9.0 hack servers with just 1.8.0… but you wont be able to access the new stuff).

Things you should know before playing…

1. You CAN’T connect to any private servers by simply just altering your usual WoW realmlist.wtf file.

2. A lot of servers will have high latency! Heck, they’re just FREE servers set up by regular people.

3. When you login to the server and you get connected…or even to the select character page, and you then you automatically get disconnected…it means the SERVER IS FULL. Just keep trying to reconnect until you get through.

4. Every 10-60 min, the server will do a “World Save.” When that happens, you will lag for about 10 sec. Nothing to worry about, though!

Cool Stuff

1. A lot of good servers will have a level cap of 255! Yes…lvl 255!

2. Most servers have high MP and HP regen!

3. Some servers, any class/race can wield any weapon/armor!

4. If you’re nice to a GM, they may transport you to the famous, GM Island .

5. Some servers have custom mounts! For example you can ride a hyppogrif, gryphon, wyvern, or even a dragon! (Normally requires being nice to GMs to get the dragon ).

6. Some servers have custom armors/weapons. On one server I play, I duel wield 2 swords that do 9,999 dps….EACH. (major MC pwnage).

7. Most servers have NPC venders for epic quality items for less than 10g each.

8. For those who aren’t interested in pwning high lvl mobs that’d take an entire raid in normal WoW, try out classes you’ve always wanted to mess around with. On high xp servers, you can get to 60 within 30 min - an hour.

9. Most of the time, gold is plentiful! Or if gold isn’t… mobs will always drop SEVERAL uncommon/common/epic depending on mob level.

10. If you notice you’re not getting a TON of xp from killing mobs… do quests… some servers have uber high quest reward xp.
